FIFA Ranking: Nigeria drop position in latest ranking

Nigeria dropped three places to 45th place in the latest overall ranking released by the International Association Football Association (FIFA).

Friday's announcement was a blow to the Super Eagles, who climbed four places in the previous standings in April.

During the period under review, Gernot Rohr's men participated in a friendly against Zimbabwe as part of their preparations for the African Nations
Cup 2019 (Afcon), but ended in a goalless draw in Asaba.

Nigeria joins Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho and Seychelles as the African teams with the biggest drop in qualifying.

Despite the overall difference, they remain the third best team in Africa, behind first-place Senegal [22] and Tunisia [25] in second place.

Morocco [47], Democratic Republic of Congo [49], Ghana [50], Cameroon [51], Egypt [58], Burkina Faso [59] and Mali [62] constitute the other 10 main
teams on the continent.

Nigeria will try to reach more points in the next FIFA ranking, scheduled for July 25, with their performances at the African Nations Cup.

The three African champions were placed in Group B of the tournament with Guinea, Burundi and Madagascar.
