Nations League final Portugal 1-0 Netherlands: Guedes takes Portugal to glory

Portugal secured glory in the League of Nations on Sunday with Goncalo Guedes' goal in the second half, which earned them a 1-0 win over the Netherlands at Estádio
do Dragão.

The host nation had been named a favorite before the inaugural finals and fulfilled that turnover in Porto, adding more important trophies to the triumph in the
European championship three years ago.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored three goals in a 3-1 semi-final victory over Switzerland, but on this occasion Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt remained relatively
quiet.

Instead, it was left to Guedes to solve the problems, exchanging passes with Bernardo Silva and breaking home from the entrance of the area, although Jasper Cillessen
might think he could have done better.

Cillessen, who won his 50th. Captain, was the busiest keeper in the first half-hour, despite being called only to make a trio of routine defenses - twice from Bruno
Fernandes, who scored the goal of Jose Fonte.

Fernandes continued to be a threat, bending slightly from the entrance of the area, while the hosts were still most likely to score as the gap approached.

The Netherlands proved more accurate after the interval and Rui Patricio came down hard to counter Georginio Wijnaldum, but by the time Portugal scored the goal they
 deserved.

Guedes found Silva, who returned the ball with a well-disguised pass, and Valencia entered the bottom right by Cillessen's left hand.

Patricio saved Memphis Depay's header impressively, while the Dutch looked for a quick response, but the closest they got was Marten de Roon, 20 meters away, while
Portugal held another big international trophy.
